Overview
This project involved creating a large-scale report system that could improve the speed, consistency and long-term usability of complex multi-disciplinary documents. The aim was not only to design a strong visual framework, but to solve a major production bottleneck by building a smarter workflow between authoring and final layout.
The Challenge
Large reports were being developed collaboratively in PowerPoint for ease of sharing and content input, but the final documents needed to be professionally designed in InDesign. This created a significant manual production burden, with content needing to be repeatedly reformatted and rebuilt. The challenge was to create a system that improved efficiency without compromising design quality, while also supporting brand consistency and future scalability.
The Approach
I developed a report system that combined visual identity, template design and workflow automation into a single solution. This included building a flexible design language for long-form documents, creating a large icon suite, and establishing template structures across both Microsoft and Adobe environments so the system could function coherently across the full process.
To address the production challenge, I helped develop an automation workflow that translated structured PowerPoint content into XML, which could then be mapped into InDesign using scripting and pre-defined style systems. This dramatically reduced manual formatting while preserving layout quality and giving teams a clearer, more repeatable process for producing large reports.
The system was designed not just for immediate delivery, but for longevity, creating a stronger foundation for future brand development, higher quality outputs and more efficient collaboration across teams.
The Outcome
The result was a more intelligent and scalable reporting system that combined design quality with operational efficiency. The workflow significantly reduced production time, improved consistency across outputs and created a more robust framework for future document creation. By solving both the communication and production sides of the problem, the project turned a heavy manual process into a more strategic and sustainable system.
